Jean Cortes  Double Bass

Jean Cortes

Born on February 24, 1958 at Orleans city (Algeria). He starts studying music on violin and piano, taking lessons from the music academy of Toulon. He starts playing the doublebass at the music academy of Fresnes and perfects it with Jean-François Jenny-Clark at the ‘Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris’.

Finally he studies arrangement in Yvan Julien’s class at the C.I.M. Jazz School.

He has been performing as a professional musician since 1985.

He expresses himself in many different styles of music: from Classical to Brazilian Music, New Orleans to Be-Bop, from ‘Jazz Musette’ to Gypsy Jazz, from Experimental Jazz to Improvised Music…

His ‘eclecticism’, his skills in various styles and the great musical culture he has are the reasons why he’s become a busy sideman.

He regularly accompanies Richard Miller, Roger ‘Beb’ Guerin, Stéphanie Crawford, Patrick Saussois, Michel Graillier, Dorado Schmitt, Raphaël Fays, Moreno, André Jaume and Samson Schmitt.
