CHARLIE DAVOT

DRUMS Percussions

 

Born in 1967 in Bar sur Aube.

In 1975, he starts learning the drums on his own by taking part in numerous training sessions for orchestras and percussion instruments. From 1979 to 1982, he takes drums, percussion instruments and flute lessons at the Bar-sur-Aube, and practices the timpani, and the snare drums. He also learn to play the piano, taking private lessons.

From 1982 to 1985, he studies classical and modern percussion instruments playing with François PIGUET at the Troyes National Region Conservatoire.

From 1989 to 1992, he follows the drummer professional degree course at the Nancy Musical and Creative Centre and graduates with distinction.

In 2000, He studies western Africa traditional percussion instruments in Bamako (Mali).

Professional experience

Charlie Davot is a recognised and active drummer of the Lorraine musical scene. He starts his professional carrer in 1984with the ‘Monsieur Fritz’ band (Funk rock). In 1990, he joins ‘Mister Bird’ (Fusion jazz), prizewinner of the La Défense contest. He is also a member of the ‘Yllen 4’ band (modern jazz and improvisation) with whom he gives numerous concerts and records two albums: ‘1, 2, 3 et…’ and ‘Mineral Statut’, elected ‘emotion disc’ in Jazz Mag.

Between 1992 and 2001, his growing reputation leads many different bands to ask him to play with them: the ‘Pierre Boespflug Trio’ named after its pianist, the ‘Geller’ rock band, the ‘Nomadic Ensemble’ improvisation big band, the ‘Funky Staff’ Jazz Funk band, the ‘Free Confits’ Afro-jazz band, the ‘Guy Shadek Quartet (numerous concerts in Germany and Luxembourg).

In 1999, he starts exploring the percussion instruments more deeply and is a part of the ‘Tumkatak’ band (reprocessing materials percussion quartet) Sylvain Courtney Quintet: Modern Jazz, United Colors of Sodom : hardcore  and improvisation great ensemble.

2000: L.A.B.O. (new music mix, rock, improvisation and video). Tapageurs: street orchestra. Eddy Laurent Guyot Trio: Modern Jazz. Gradus Ad Musicam: Symphonic orchestra. Creation around S. Revueltas, the composer.

2001: Gradus Ad Musicam: D. Fanshaw’s African Sanctus for a choir and percussion instruments. L.A.B.O. tour organised by Zic Zac in Lorraine and concerts every now and then.

2002: Thermostat 8: creation for 4 percussionists, initiated by the EMD label. Groupe EMIL: band composed of 15 musicians: new music, modern jazz and improvisations. Vandoeuvre CCAM creation, Metz Arsenal and local tour. Gradus Ad Musicam: Didier Lockwood’s opera.
